In addition to providing information and data from NWS sources, we have our own small but reliable network of live weather data platforms complete with web cams. Right now, we have a station in Pascagoula, Mississippi, one in New York City and one along the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The stations utilize the very best in weather data collection gear and are sited to the NOAA standard of at least 10 meters. We wrote our own software and designed our own interface to gather and display the data on the website where it is updated every 60 seconds. We also include a live web cam image that is updated several times per minute.

In addition to the permanent stations listed above, we also have a portable 5-meter wind tower and weather station that we deploy when a hurricane threatens landfall. The data is fed back to the site via the Sprint network and is available free of charge for anyone to access. In recent years, our data has been sited and incorporated in to National Hurricane Center records. We use strong guy-wires and an impressive anchoring system designed for the U.S. Military by American Earth Anchors. The 5-meter tower is topped with an RM Young anemometer for wind speed and direction and Davis Instruments for all other weather data. The tower also has its own live web cam for remote monitoring of the site. Our aim is to place the tower directly in to the path of the eye of a hurricane at least 12 hours before landfall. By doing this, we believe we can capture an excellent record of the wind speed and the air pressure- along with other important meteorological data. You will be able to watch the data live via the link below. Hurricane Intercept Research Team 5-meter tower weather data and web cam:
